tetrachord

2016

‘Tetrachord’ was a 3-week multidisciplinary residency project with experimental musician Ahmad Barakat (brikkkks) and architect Hiba Shahzada that took place at the Lab at Darat Al Funun art gallery in Amman and culminated in a public performance in may 2016. During the creation process the lab space was open to the public at all times. In this way, the project sought to demystify the creative act, exposing its banality and challenging the idea that art emerges as a kind of divine conception. Instead the everyday was transformed into art thus challenging the notion that performance is a closed event independent of everyday life. By opening the space to the public the street became an active participant in the creative process inspiring the pedestrian movement language, the sound quality and the spatial configuration of the installation. The body became a tool to measure the surrounding environment which in turn influenced the heights of the reclaimed steel 'box' installations.
